The federal government is currently in a shutdown. At this time, there are no immediate impacts to federally funded child and family programs operated by the Colorado Department of Early Childhood. Families should continue to access care and services as usual.

We are monitoring the situation closely with federal partners and will share updates as soon as more information becomes available.

Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation

Early Childhood Mental Health (ECMH) Consultation is a free, voluntary support program for parents and caregivers caring for children ages six and under who desire extra support to support the social-emotional development and mental health of the children in their care.

Consultants support children's mental health by building on an adult's current skills to help children manage emotions, make positive relationships, resolve conflicts peacefully, and take care of others

ECMH services are different based on the needs and goals of the clients. Services may be very brief, but on average take about 4-6 months to complete and each session lasts 1 to 1.5 hours. ECMH Consultation is typically delivered in early childhood settings including child care, home visiting, medical home, and other settings as appropriate, both in-person or via telehealth by trained mental health professionals.

Parents and/or caregivers interested in consultation services can enroll in ECMH Consultation Program by doing one of the following:

The Colorado Early Learning and Development Guidelines
Are you interested in learning about the expectations for your child's development based on their age? The Colorado Early Learning and Development Guidelines describe the path of children’s learning and development from birth to 8 years old. Broken down by age and major milestones, the guidelines are a sort of map, helping parents and caregivers navigate their child's early years. Experts from across Colorado developed these guidelines to create a shared understanding and a coordinated approach to learning and development.

Curious about what your little one is thinking at this age? Wondering what you can do to help them thrive and reach their developmental milestones? Check out the guidelines using the link below.
