Description: The APS Program offers protective services to at-risk adults. Definition: "An individual eighteen years of age or older who is susceptible to mistreatment, self-neglect, or exploitation because the individual is unable to perform or obtain services necessary for his/her health, safety, or welfare or lacks sufficient understanding or capacity to make or communicate responsible decisions concerning his/her person or affairs." Types of Abuse: - Physical Abuse - Sexual Abuse - Caregiver Neglect - Self Neglect - Exploitation If someone is concerned about a friend, neighbor or loved one in any of the above areas mentioned, individuals are encouraged to call the Department of Human Services intake line. The APS Program refers possible criminal activities to law enforcement and/or the district attorney for criminal investigation and possible prosecution.
