Description: Food Security programs include: Cooking Matters: -A hands-on, six week cooking-based nutrition, education program that provides the skills, knowledge and confidence to prepare healthy and affordable meals. - Nutrition lessons - Meal preparation education - Grocery shopping tips - Food budgeting skills - Each participant receives a bag of groceries to replicate the meal they’ve created - Class days and times can vary, call for specific information on the next available class. Snap Food Benefits Program: -Clients can apply for SNAP by contacting local expert navigators in Ouray, Telluride, and Norwood West End: - Ridgway/Ouray Cecilia Castro: 970-417-7143 -Norwood/West End Nadia Gonzalez: 970-519-1117 -Telluride Nadia Gonzalez: 970-519-1117 - Delta/Montrose Kimberly Meraz: 970-765-8866 For Spanish-speaking clients: - Telluride Area/Norwood/West End Nadia Gonzalez: 970-519-1117 -Montrose/Delta: Cecilia Castro: 970-417-7143 Food RX : - This program offered in partnership with local medical clinics uses food as medicine to improve patient health outcomes. - Through TCHNetwork’s FoodRx Program, patients with a chronic disease who enroll in the program at Basin Clinic, Uncompahgre Medical Center, and the Telluride Regional Medical Center receive $120 in vouchers over 7 weeks to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from participating stores. - The patients also receive coaching from clinic staff on how to stretch their FoodRx dollars and how to best incorporate fresh fruits and vegetables into their diet.
